Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport Week
Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport Week takes place from 7th to 11th October 2024.
Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport is a national, year-round campaign run by the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit (NSPCC CPSU) which aims to raise awareness of the key role parents/carers have in ensure children are safe while involved in sport
Alongside the year-round campaign, a focus week takes place during the first week of October to highlight the campaign and launch new resources and guidance for parents and carers. This focus week brings to life the campaign messages with stories from parents, young people, and coaches.
The 2024 aim is to bring your sporting community together, to create an open and inclusive culture, where parents feel able to speak up, ask questions and raise concerns.
The Key messages for KYCSIS 2024 :
Objectives:
Showcase the vital role of community in safeguarding young people and children. Emphasise that safeguarding is a shared responsibility, involving parents, coaches, volunteers, and clubs working together to create a protective environment, with the aim to building a community where young athletes feel safe, supported, and empowered to thrive in their sporting journeys.
Create and nurture strong communication, collective vigilance, and a commitment to the well-being of every child and young person within sport, physical activity and movement, aiming to build a community where young athletes feel safe, supported, and empowered to thrive in their sporting journeys.
Raise awareness of safeguarding children and young people in sports and educate parents, guardians, coaches, and sports clubs/organisations/physical activity providers about the measures they can take to protect children and young people
TEAM HUDDLE
The Campaign & KYCSIS is encouraging communities to come together through Team Huddles – events designed to foster social connections and raise awareness about safeguarding.
These gatherings can take various forms, such as watch-along parties major sporting events, community fun days, fundraisers, or inviting the NSPCC to present safeguarding workshops. These events are opportunities to build connections, discuss safeguarding practices, and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for young athletes.
To support these efforts, the CPSU is offering free downloadable Team Huddle activity packs, which are designed to help conversations about safeguarding and supervision, reinforcing the importance of child welfare in sports.
