Summary of Badminton Ireland Insurance Policy for Affiliated Members and Clubs
It is important to Badminton Ireland that all affiliated members and clubs are properly protected.
This significant benefit is part of the annual BI affiliation payment made by clubs and individuals through our insurance partners, ODON insurance brokers. Here is a summary of the main protection benefits.
Public Liability
Public liability insurance protects the affiliated associations, clubs and individual members, officers and committees against claims by third parties for property damage and/or bodily injury as a result of negligence on behalf of the Association, affiliated clubs and/or its registered members.
Public Liability is defined as:
Legal Liability to pay damages consequent upon bodily injury, illness or disease contract by any other person for loss or damage to their property caused.
The Limit of indemnity provided by policy is €6.5 million with a €500 excess in respect of each and every claim for Property Damage.
Professional Indemnity
Professional Indemnity insurance provides a financial indemnity to an affiliated member or officer against a legal liability to compensate a third party who has sustained injury, loss or damage through breach of duty.
This policy is of great benefit to trainers, coaches and instructors who are affiliated.
Professional Indemnity insurance provides cover for all within the association where legal action is taken against you by third parties claiming to have suffered a loss as a result of advice or breach of duty given to them.
The limit of Indemnity provided by the policy is 1.3 million with a €500 excess in respect of each and every claim.
Personal Accident Cover
The Insurance shall cover an affiliated Member against bodily injury sustained:
Whilst playing or officiating for the members club or the assured in amateur matches.
Whilst taking part in training organised by the member club or the assured.
Whilst travelling directly to/from away fixtures as part of an organised party under the auspices of the Members club or the assured.
Whilst taking part in any social activity organised by the Members club or assured.

7 | The Insured person becoming totally and permanently disabled as a result of injury sustained whilst travelling to or from an event in which they are engaged to play. Cover for 20% of the applicable capital benefit listed above. |

FREE Badminton Ireland Member Insurance Full Club Insurance
Badminton Ireland club and member activities are insured through our brokers, O'Driscoll O'Neil, who have arranged cover with Sportscover Europe Limited.
Please note only affiliated players are covered by this insurance and playing with or against non-affiliated players may void cover.
- The Public Liability policy covers meetings, badminton activities and social/fundraising activities.
- The Personal Accident Policy covers injury while training or playing badminton (Full Affiliations Only).
Please note for 2013/14 that the limit on medical expenses was increased from €1000 to €1500 (excess €100). Any travel by air not organised by Badminton Ireland may require an additional policy and you should clarify your coverage before making any arrangements.

What happens if I need to make a claim?
As soon as possible after the Incident, please download or ask us to send you out an Insurance Incident report Form – this is a Word Document that can be edited and emailed to membership@badmintonireland.com . It is important that this notification takes place within 28 days of the incident. Please click here to download the Badminton Ireland Incident Document. Once Badminton Ireland & ODON confirm your Badminton Ireland affiliation, ODON will then deal with you directly on the claim, and they will forward full claims form for completion. It is important to keep all receipts for expenses incurred.
