Ulster Club Cup
On Saturday 29th April 2023 we ran the first ever Ulster Club Cup and this event took place at Castleblayney College, Monaghan and was for players graded D and below. The event was run with 2 groups of 4 teams that played in a round robin format before the top 2 teams of each group advanced to the semi-finals. The competition comprised of 8 teams from Raphoe, Kilmore and Drumsnatt, Banbridge District, Farney, Aghadrumsee, Strandone and Alpha. Each match consisted of total of 5 matches which included 1 men’s doubles, 1 women’s doubles and 3 mixed doubles.
Group 1 Group 2
- Raphoe - Aghadrumsee
- Kilmore and Drumsnatt - Stradone
- Banbridge 1 - Banbridge 2
- Farney - Alpha
With play starting at 9.30am and after 3 rounds of matches the teams that advanced to the semi-final stage were Raphoe, Aghadrumsee, Stradone and Kilmore and Drumsnatt. The first semi-final was between Raphoe and Aghadrumsee and after a number of close games Raphoe came out 4-0 winners and were the first team to advance to the final. The second semi-final was between Kilmore and Drumsnatt and Stradone and after an excellent match up and some very close games Stradone edged the second semi-final 3-1 and were the second team to advance to the final. The final was contested between Raphoe and Stradone and after some tight games Raphoe finished the winners and took home the title for 2023!
Well done to all the players, coaches and clubs involved on the day and it was great to see many clubs coming together from across Ulster to compete in the Ulster Club Cup with really competitive games taking place throughout the day and we look forward to running the next one.
