East Ulster Badminton League
Thursday 30th March 2023 saw the end the 2022/23 season for the East Ulster Badminton League. This season was the first year of the East Ulster League which saw the beginning of a new format introduced in the league of 2 men and 2 women in each team and each team match consisting of 1 Men’s Doubles, 1 Women’s Doubles and 2 Mixed Doubles.
The first season was a great start to the new league with a total of 12 teams involved within the league across 3 divisions. The league started on Thursday 27th October 2022 and after 12 match dates which all took place at Strathearn School, Belfast the league finished on Thursday 30th March. The league comprised of teams from Greenwell Street, Queens, Whiteabbey, Dundonald, Knock and CIYMS.
The winners and runners up from each league are as follows:
Division 1
Winners- Greenwell Street A
Runner Up- Greenwell Street B
Division 2
Winners- Greenwell Street C
Runner Up- Dundonald A
Division 3
Winners- Knock B
Runner Up- Dundonald B
This venture was started with the aim of providing more competitive playing opportunities for clubs and their players. We are delighted with the success of the league in the first year and are keen to build on this success and to attract a number of new clubs involved each season and increase the number of divisions across the league over the next few years.
Plans for the 2023/24 season will begin over the next month and we are keen to hear from clubs from across Ulster that would be keen to get involved. As mentioned, teams are made up of 2 men and 2 women and we will aim to increase the number of teams competing in the league each year. If any clubs are interested or would like more information, then please get in touch with Kyle on kyledunn@ulsterbadminton.com.
Well done to all players and clubs involved throughout this season.
