    Decathlon & Ulster Badminton

Following a very successfully partnership last season, Ulster Badminton are delighted that for the 2019-20 season they will be continuing their partnership with Decathlon, Belfast. The partnership had helped move the sport forward and has provided benefits and opportunities at all playing levels.

One of the major success was the start of Ulster Junior League in which Decathlon were title sponsor and an area they will continue to support. The competition was ran by Ulster Badminton with the support of the clubs, and sponsored by Decathlon Belfast with the aim of providing competitive playing experiences for club level players.  Ulster Badminton’s Club and Coaching Officer, Ryan Prentice said it is great to have Decathlon support the league for another season:

We are delighted and appreciative to have Decathlon as title sponsor for our second year of the competition. It was a great first year for the league and competing clubs and we look forward to growing the event this coming season. Our aim is for this league to have representatives from across Ulster for as many junior clubs’ players as possible to benefit and enjoy the sport and competing against each other. With the continued support of Decathlon we have a great platform to achieving this.  If you are involved with a junior club and would like more information on how to get involved please contact me.’

Further areas in which the partnership has grown is sponsorship of the Ulster Senior Team. The Ulster Senior team will be competing in the English Inter County league for the upcoming season and with the additional support from Decathlon will boost their hopes gaining promotion into Division 1.

We will be continuing our membership benefits for affiliated Ulster Badminton members with a invite only Discount evening in store at Decathlon, Belfast in December,  along with the all year round ‘Try before you buy’ on all badminton racquets. A great opportunity to loan a few racquets and find out which one works best for you before the season starts!

Furthermore, Decathlon have chosen Para Badminton World Medallist Andrew Moorcroft and Performance player Ben Dempster as ambassadors for their own badminton brand PERFLY. Perfly is a new up and coming brand on the market with a wide range of clothing and equipment.

The clothing is really comfortable, looks good and great to play in. I chose the Perfly BR 990 P racquet. Its head heavy which is great for generating power but balanced enough for touch and control. I’m really happy with the new clothing and equipment.

Matt Ferguson, Marketing and Event Manager at Decathlon Belfast commented

"Decathlon Belfast are proud to support and help Ulster Badminton during this upcoming season.  Our Decathlon motto is to make sport accessible for the many, and this initiative helps us to achieve that. We encourage all persons to pick up a racket and try this great sport. The team at Ulster Badminton will certainly be there to provide assistance and help you reach your potential, whether it be enjoyment or competition. We wish you a great season and look forward to welcoming you in the Decathlon Belfast store soon."
