About the Club

Alpha Badminton Club was founded in 1932 by members of Lisburn Cricket Club as a way to keep n touch during the winter months. Over the years they played in a number of one court halls around Lisburn. In the 1960’s they joined with Hilden Tennis Club to fund raise in order to built joint facilities for – Hilden in the summer and Alpha in the winter. The two clubs had a number of members in common. The new facility, named the Lisburn Racquets Club, opened in November 1970 with new changing and social rooms, three badminton courts and two squash courts run by a new joint member, Lisburn Racquets Squash Club. Subsequent developments have brought in 12 badminton courts, two more squash courts, improved social facilities and a dome covering 2 tennis courts in the winter.


Alpha Juvenile Badminton Club, 36 Belfast Road, Lisburn, has vacancies for juvenile members aged 4 plus.  The membership year is 1st Sept – 31st Aug. Membership Fee is £28 paid monthly (mid-month) by DD or £300 annual fee, New members joining during the year pay pro-rata for the remaining months to the end of August.

Players are grouped according to age and ability.

Members get the following free of charge:

  • Prospective members may have a 3 weeks free trial.

  • Club play 1.5 hours Sat. mornings for at least 45 weeks per year.

  • Courts for casual play all year.

  • Rackets and shuttles on loan.

  • Basic coaching – Club standard - Saturday mornings.

  • Coaching, competition standard - Saturday mornings.

  • Non-member parents playing with their children-members.

  • Unlimited use of Fitness Suite after Induction (£10) providing supervision Rules fully observed.

  • Full membership of Hilden Tennis Club.

  • Full membership of Lisburn Racquets Squash Club.

Best times for a first visit.: Between 9.00 and 12.00 Sat. morning.
