Taster Sessions

Is your school interested in starting a badminton club? Through their Regional Development Officer Ulster Badminton can offer taster sessions to help generate interest in the club and help get it up and running. For these sessions the school needs little equipment as Ulster Badminton can provide everything needed for the session. Taster sessions are a great way of promoting a new sport to pupils and all sessions are fun based and are planned to ensure maximum participation with each pupil having a racket and shuttle with the game of badminton introduced through a series of fun games and activities.

Schools Coaching

Ulster Badminton can help schools if they wish to have a coach to come into the school and work with their pupils. A typical schools programme would last approximately 6 weeks however a programme can be tailored to suit the needs of the school. More information on coaching can be found on the Coaching section of the website under the heading ‘ Employing a Coach’.

Competition

Ulster Badminton run a Annual National Primary Schools Programme that offer schools the opportunity to compete Regionally against local schools in a competition that offers many young players their first experience of competitive badminton. With this in mind all competitions offer players a number of matches in both singles and doubles so players get the opportunity to play against as many players from different schools as possible. Following the Regional rounds of competition those successful schools will qualify for a National finals competition that takes place at the National Badminton Centre in Lisburn.

In recent years Regional Competitions have taken place in:

  • Banbridge

  • Bangor

  • Coleraine

  • Craigavon

  • Letterkenny

  • Strabane / Bready

Information about the 2011/12 events will be available soon so please keep checking the website.

Ulster Badminton are currently working on more programmes for Primary Schools particularly looking to focus on the Primary 4 and Primary 5 age groups and would be keen to hear from any schools that are keen to look at any participation opportunities.

Ulster Badminton also works closely with Badminton Ireland and can help provide any of the Badminton Ireland Schools programmes to Ulster based schools. Please check out the link below for more information on Badminton Ireland programmes:
