    12th Irish National Title for Sam & Chloe Magee


    Sam Magee & Chloe Magee have made history at the National Indoor Arena, winning their 12th Irish Nationals as a pair in the Mixed Doubles. Chloe Magee has now won 26 National titles which is currently being checked in the All-Time standings.

    The previous record of 10 Nationals wins as a pair came from Yvonne Kelly & Mary Bryan in 1972. The 2020 Irish Nationals witnessed Sam & Chloe Magee win their record setting 12th Irish Nationals title in the Mixed Doubles. Sam & Chloe Magee have also equalled Yvonne Kelly's 12 National wins in a single event also set in 1972.

    The Raphoe pair had a smooth run to the final and took their 12 title in style with a comprehensive 21-11, 21-10 win over #teamNI player Rachael Darragh & Paul Reynolds.

    Chole added to her impressive national title record with a win in the Women’s Doubles with partner Sara Boyle. Unseeded for the event the pair progressed to the final to face Top seeds Kate Frost & Moya Ryan. It was Magee & Boyle who took a tight opening set 21-19 and a comfortable 2nd set 21-14 to take the tile, making Chloe’s overall National title count to 26.

    Raphoe’s Josh Magee and partner Paul Reynolds claimed the Men’s Doubles title to make it Josh’s 5th men’s double’s title overall, defeating his older brother Daniel Magee & Sam McKay in the Final.  Team NI player Ciaran Chambers & Ryan Stewart reached the Semi-final of the event losing out to Josh & Paul, while Tony Murphy and Stuart Lightbody progressed to the Semi Finals losing out to Daniel & Sam. Josh also reached the Semi-final of the Men’s Singles losing out to eventually winner Nhat Nguyen.

    Rachael Woods & Rachael Darragh both make the Semi final of the women’s Singles, with Rachael Darragh narrowly missing out on a final spot, losing 23-21 in the 3rd set against Kate Frost in her semi. Rachael Woods faced an in-form Sara Boyle in her Semi final losing out 21-16, 21-10 against the eventual winner of the Singles event.

    U15 Irish Nationals

    Ulster Performance Squad Players Rory Comer & Roisin McKenna put in a great performance in the final to beat top seeds Cooney/Flynn in the final of the Mixed. The Ballyclare/Alpha partnership won a close first set 22-20 before Cooney/Flynn took the second set 21-19 to force a decider. It was the Ulster pair who took it 21-15 and the Mixed National title.

    Paige Woods teamed up with Siofra Flynn in the girl’s doubles playing at a great level throughout the event to win the event, 21-11, 21-17 in the final against Ulster’s Roisin McKenna & Sibhe Collins.

    Rory Comer also had a great run in the Boys singles reaching the final after a 21-19, 21-18 Semi final win. In the Final he played Dylan Noble which proved to be a game to far with Dylan taking it 21-14, 21-15.

    Roisin McKenna, who was unseeded in the event, played some great girls singles to reach the final after a marathon 21-10, 17-21, 21-18 Semi-final against fellow Ulster player Paige Woods. In the final she played Siofra Flynn losing out 21-15, 21-13.

    Well done to all competitors, medalists and Badminton Ireland to the Organisation of the event.
