Ulster Regional Development Squads

Ulster Badminton have 10 Regional Development Squads operating throughout Ulster. Regional Development Squads have been set up to act as a link between School Sport and Ulster representation. Players must be U15 and must be nominated by their school to receive a trial for their local squad and from there the top players in each area will be selected.

Squads meet on a weekly basis during term time and receive coaching from experienced Badminton Ireland qualified coaches. The squads work towards the Sport Northern Ireland Youth Games competition that takes place each May. Here all the squads come together at the National Badminton Centre in Lisburn and compete against each other for the title of Sport NI Youth Games Champions. Currently the holders of the title are Donegal after they defeated South East Ards in the 2008 Final.

The Regional Development Squad programme is overseen by Ryan Prentice, Ulster Badminton’s Regional Development Officer.

Squads take place in the following areas, Belfast, Newtownards, Lisburn, Banbridge, Antrim, Coleraine, Londonderry, Omagh, Down and Donegal.
